We homeschool year around but we start our new year right after labor day. I would love to hear what special things your families do to celebrate the 1st day of school.

In the past I've given the kids a special book or some new school supplies.

Yep, we started today, as well (and we did take summer off)!

I gave him 3 new books I'd ordered from Usborne, and took a picture of his artwork to post on my blog. I believe I've done both every year (though last year he saw the book b4 I could hide them) so I guess they are traditions.

We were both excited today to get started!!

We just finished our day around 1pm and made lunch together using one of his new books, a cookbook.

How did everyone else's day go?

P.S. Check out my blog if you want to read more about our day and see the pics.

I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to respond. It looks like you had a great day. My kids would so enjoy having cooking time with me. I tell myself I should do more cooking with them. I wish I could do it weekly but it never happens. I'm think we do it about twice a month.

One thing we have started is tea time. I do it when I feel we are getting to busy and our life seems hectic. All we do is have tea and little snacks, if it's hot we have juice. It's been nice because it makes us just slow down and sit and talk.

Keep us updated on how everything is going. Anyone else want to share how their year is going so far ?

We used to have afternoon tea!

Somehow, we have gotten away from the habit, but I think that would be a great thing to go back to and would be a good way to create a tradition. Great idea!!

No Nag Nirvana

Yes, wouldn’t that be like heaven? You walk around the house and without saying a word, backpacks, toys and clothes are picked up…dishes are cleared off the table and towels are hung back on the towel rack. Dirty clothes actually go into the dirty clothes basket and you no longer walk into the kitchen to [...]

The Power of Unexpected Kindness

The idea of Door Knob Drops came from my sister, Teri, who lives with her two boys in Moraga, California. One year there were several kids on their street that were graduating from some school or another; sixth grade, eighth grade or twelfth grade. Teri and her boys put together some very simple treats with [...]

What Would You Do?

Last night my boys, Dylan and Travis, were helping me cut out Bingo Boards and put together Bingo Button sacks. It was really late and I was trying to get everything photographed for this first Five in One Family Fun email. Normally they go to bed by 9:15 but it was 9:30 and I hadn’t [...]
