Dana... Thank you so much for your sweet thoughts and prayers! Grandma and Grandpa (who live across the road from us) just celebrated their 70th anniversary!!! Incredible! Talk about leaving a legacy! Wow! Even though I know I had to be with my family, it broke my heart to miss out on seeing you all! It was a tough weekend all around! Now I'll just set my sights on January and know that I'll see you all then! Hey, at least I have a nice airline credit to cash in now! Hee! Also...Congratulations on your KEY award! I was with you in spirit! --Holly

I know, we have to wait till January now! :-( I recorded it too and we watched it at 10pm. We got to see who won but we didn't get to see him sing the whole song at the end.

Hey Dana,
That was cool your story was in the newsletter. So did you watch the finale last night? Incase you don't know who won I won't say anything! ;-) I was very happy though! The person I voted for won! :-)

I just stopped by to comment on your story in the Happy Home Club Newsletter, and I found another great story! You have great stories to tell! I was amazed at how your four year old son described what joy felt like- that is such a great, and accurate description! I am still wowed. And the story about your daughter and your dog made me cry- that was so beautiful. The letter she wrote, and the letter that she got back was just so full of love- I bet this is just what she needed to help her deal with the passing of your dog. Thanks for sharing your stories, I really enjoyed reading them tonight- please tell more!

God bless!

Thanks for the invite. I will talk to my husband about it. I know we were invited to another thing that same weekend. But it sounds fun!

Profile Information

A little bit about me:
I married my husband John on July 22, 1995. We had our son Thomas in Oct. 2000 and he is the biggest blessing we have ever received! We complete our family here in CA. with our dog, Scout (and a few fish and other animals that come and go!). I have been a Once Upon a Family consultant since July 2005 and love my job!
Family members – names/ages/interests:
Thomas - 7 years old and loves to play basketball, soccer, baseball and ride his scooter or bicycle. He has a reputation for being very well mannered and mature for his age. I attribute his knowledge of values to the Keys of Happiness and our Candle of Honor tradition which we have been doing faithfully for more than three years! That has made a Happy Home for the Moler family for sure!!!
My favorite childhood memory:
Summers at my grandma's house where I got to see my cousin every year and play. I didn't have any sisters, so she was like a sister to me! We still go on a trip together every year along with our moms!! We've had that traditional annual trip for 23 years now!!! It's our annual Mother/Daughter Trip.
My favorite family tradition:
In our house, anytime two of us think of the same thing at the same time and say it outloud then we give each other a high five and say, "We're a Team". It happens a lot!! Great family minds think alike!
My favorite family moment:
I always told my son that I loved him to the moon and back, after the famous childrens story book, each night after prayers and before turning out the light. One night, after I turned out the light he called to me and said, "I love you all the way to heaven, higher than God". I melted.
There is a beautiful soul working in the dead-letter office of the US postal service. I had to share this story. Maybe an idea for a family who has lost a pet. Mom or Dad could intercept the letter from the outgoing mail...

Our 14-year-old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4-year-old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.
Love, Meredith.

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith hand addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.
Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed "To Meredith" in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, "When a Pet Dies." Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.
Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.
Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.
I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.
By the way, I'm easy to find, I am wherever there is love.
Love, God

No Nag Nirvana

Yes, wouldn’t that be like heaven? You walk around the house and without saying a word, backpacks, toys and clothes are picked up…dishes are cleared off the table and towels are hung back on the towel rack. Dirty clothes actually go into the dirty clothes basket and you no longer walk into the kitchen to [...]

The Power of Unexpected Kindness

The idea of Door Knob Drops came from my sister, Teri, who lives with her two boys in Moraga, California. One year there were several kids on their street that were graduating from some school or another; sixth grade, eighth grade or twelfth grade. Teri and her boys put together some very simple treats with [...]

What Would You Do?

Last night my boys, Dylan and Travis, were helping me cut out Bingo Boards and put together Bingo Button sacks. It was really late and I was trying to get everything photographed for this first Five in One Family Fun email. Normally they go to bed by 9:15 but it was 9:30 and I hadn’t [...]
