Family fun night in our home alternates between a couple of nights, based on our schedules for the week and when the boys are with us. But we are a family that likes games. We usually focus on a team game. We chose in November to have a “Scene It” t…

Dinner conversations flow freely & regularly at our home. We have the conversation starters box on the windowsill, and also a box or other dinnertime questions. My kids reach for it each & every evening. The most memorable moment that month was when…

January – My son, Brandon's birthday. He was born during the halftime of the Superbowl, so we sometimes combine the 2 events. February – Valentine's Day – I leave each of my kids a stuffed animal & treats on their beds when they get home from school…

For Christmas this year, I decided to give my Grandma the Stories of My Life booklets, but with a twist. She just turned 90, and while she is in excellent health, there are no guarantees how long she'll be with us. I wanted her legacy recorded for f…

My random act of kindness is a little different than what I would typically share. But this has been a difficult month for me. My 12 year old son has been struggling with some issues lately. Learning how to deal with stress in a healthy way as adult…

When I read the personality test, I was certain I knew the answer - a nurturer and organizer. It turns out that while I do indeed have those strengths, I actually scored the highest in the "Family Fun Manager" category. It was a surpise to me, but n…

Hi Jill,
I'm Trish in Customer Service at OUAF. I'm glad to see you on the HHC site. Can't wait to read your profile and get to know you and your family. So hurry up I'm anxious. Find a nice family picture to add also. Talk to you soon. ;-)

Profile Information

A little bit about me:
I am a stay at home mom. I keep busy with 3 kids, my Once Upon A Family Business, leading a monthly women's group, and volunteering at church.
Family members – names/ages/interests:
Husband, Jan - A chef (great marriage perk!). An avid golfer, great entertainer, and all-around wonderful man.
Son, Brandon - 14yrs old. An 8th grader. Loves football (the 49ers). Great wit, always keeps me guessing.
Son, Matthew - 12 yrs old. A 6th grader. Loves football (Cin. Bengals). Kind hearted, goofy spirit.
Daughter, Sage - 19 mos. On the move non-stop. Talkative, loud, silly, and sweet.
My favorite childhood memory:
My grandparents used to take the grandkids camping each summer. Usually in shifts. I was the only girl, so grandpa & I were great pals.

My mom & I would dance together in the living room. Seems simple, but it always brings a smile to my face when I think of it.
My favorite family tradition:
On NYE my dad would take the family to Pizza Hut and we'd write an annual NYE poem. Quite silly, but a lot of fun.

Every night, my boys & I read togeter. Usually a chapter book. We gather in one of their bedrooms and read a few chapters. It's a great way to end the evening and we look forward to picking out new books.
My favorite family moment:
Anytime I see a family connection: my husband with his stepsons, the boys playing with their little sister, or special one on one time with me & one of the kids.

No Nag Nirvana

Yes, wouldn’t that be like heaven? You walk around the house and without saying a word, backpacks, toys and clothes are picked up…dishes are cleared off the table and towels are hung back on the towel rack. Dirty clothes actually go into the dirty clothes basket and you no longer walk into the kitchen to [...]

The Power of Unexpected Kindness

The idea of Door Knob Drops came from my sister, Teri, who lives with her two boys in Moraga, California. One year there were several kids on their street that were graduating from some school or another; sixth grade, eighth grade or twelfth grade. Teri and her boys put together some very simple treats with [...]

What Would You Do?

Last night my boys, Dylan and Travis, were helping me cut out Bingo Boards and put together Bingo Button sacks. It was really late and I was trying to get everything photographed for this first Five in One Family Fun email. Normally they go to bed by 9:15 but it was 9:30 and I hadn’t [...]
