A little bit about me:
I am a grandmother of two incredible little girls who bring more joy to my life than I can put into words. I am passionate about children and family. Before becoming a consultant, I have worked on staff at two churches in Children and Family Ministry. I discovered Once Upon A Family by searching the web one night as I was preparing a presentation for a Mom's Group on the topic of the value of traditions. I immediately knew this was a "God Moment" and signed up sight unseen. Shortly after signing up, my husband was diagnosed with cancer and my son-in-law left for Iraq. Working full-time at church and needing to care for my family, I knew something had to go and it was Once Upon A Family. I resigned to care for my family. I could not get the mission of OUAF out of my mind and signed up again this past May (my husband is doing great and my son-in-law is back from Iraq). I am so grateful for Lorle's vision and leadership along with all the other amazing staff who continue to encourage, support and love us as we seek to live out the OUAF mission.
I love to do speaking engagements and booths and using OUAF products with my grandchildren! This is an amazing company and I am so blessed to be a part of it!

Grandchildren, Taylor (4) & Ashley (1)
My favorite childhood memory:
Both sets of my grandparents lived away. I saw my mom's side one a year and my dad's side a couple times a year. My grandmother on my dad's side of the family always made my sister and I feel like we were the most important person visiting. She would focus on us and not my parent's when we would visit. She would invite us into her kitchen to help her cook, we would take great walks and explore the outdoors and she would let us sit at her make-up table and try on all her jewelry. My sister and I felt so special. She passed away several years ago but I hold those memories deep in my heart and am so grateful for our special times together!
My favorite family tradition:
I did not grow up with a lot of celebration, traditions however my dad would start a jelly bean trail at the foot of my sister and i"s bed the night before Easter and we would awake to find it and follow the trail which lead to our Easter baskets. I started this tradition with my children and one year (they were in upper elementary & middle school) I forgot to get enough jelly beans to make the trail. I thought it would not be a problem but found two disappointed children on Easter morning when there was no jelly bean trail. Great lesson learned that simple activities repeated year after year become treasured memories no matter how old we are. I am happy to share that my daughter continues the tradition of the jelly bean trail with her two girls (and grandma has a jelly bean trail at my house too)!
My favorite family moment:
It's impossible to name a favorite family moment...just reading those words floods my mind with so many favorite moments. My wedding day, the birth of my children, grandchildren and on and on. Currently, a favorite would be when I pick up the phone and hear my granddaughter, Taylor's voice at the other end of the line asking if she can have a sleepover! I share that because I remember praying long before I ever married asking God if I ever had grandchildren, could they please live close so that I could see them often and be a part of their everyday life instead of once or twice a year. God had been gracious to answer that prayer as they live less than 10 miles away!

Linda, I hug them every chance I get. In fact, I ask for hugs as a consequence for every misbehavior - like back talk or being mean to a brother. I can never get enough. I am so sorry about your father. I suppose there is some comfort in being able to spend the time saying everything you want to say compared to the guy with the knee surgery. That is so shocking and so sad. Every day I feel the fear, just hovering around the edges, of losing what is so precious to me. You are in my thoughts. A big hug, Lorle

No Nag Nirvana

Yes, wouldn’t that be like heaven? You walk around the house and without saying a word, backpacks, toys and clothes are picked up…dishes are cleared off the table and towels are hung back on the towel rack. Dirty clothes actually go into the dirty clothes basket and you no longer walk into the kitchen to [...]

The Power of Unexpected Kindness

The idea of Door Knob Drops came from my sister, Teri, who lives with her two boys in Moraga, California. One year there were several kids on their street that were graduating from some school or another; sixth grade, eighth grade or twelfth grade. Teri and her boys put together some very simple treats with [...]

What Would You Do?

Last night my boys, Dylan and Travis, were helping me cut out Bingo Boards and put together Bingo Button sacks. It was really late and I was trying to get everything photographed for this first Five in One Family Fun email. Normally they go to bed by 9:15 but it was 9:30 and I hadn’t [...]
